Why Hanoi?
Hanoi, the City for Peace
The title of 'City for Peace' was granted by UNESCO to Hanoi. It shows a recognition by the international community of the positive contributions of the capital city in the struggle for peace, and its efforts to develop a city of peace.
Hanoi is over 1,000 years old, so the wealth of history here is mindboggling: temples, ancient imperial citadels, unique theatres, and stunning wilderness just outside the city all offer fun-filled days in Vietnam's capital.
HIGHLIGHTS
My favorite highlights in Hanoi

This temple is over 1000 years old. It is dedicated to a heavenly white horse that signaled where Lý Thái Tổ, Hanoi’s founder, should construct the city walls. The horse is still in the temple.

Old Quarter
Craftsmen from villages around the city used to gather in one area of their guild to sell their wares to merchants. The crafts of each area gave the names to the streets of the quarter.

Fact
Also known as the 36 streets, after the 36 guilds that used to make up the urban area of the city.

Train Street
This alley is known as train street. It is a residential area where locals have converted their houses into quaint little cafes where you can sip on traditional egg coffee while waiting for the train to pass by.
